From our local area of Amherst, MA, introducing, "Dude F*ckin Yeah!"
I had to change my policy around cursing to bring their article live, even though they will politely be billed as DFY.
I don't change policies too quickly around here, but this band is perfect for this website.
Why?
Multiple Genre Blends in a Serious Shot of Groovy Progressive Rock:
Multiple genres, indie power, real instruments and raw talent. It is this kind of music that inspires us, and what is needed in new sound concepts today. With a new generation of open minded rockers, the philosophy of the album experience has hope for the future, because this band bleeds the progressive rock vibe, within miles of its presence.

Bonnie Raitt, with opening act, Mavis Staples, brought legendary rock and blues to Mountain Park, kicking off the 2012 summer series of concerts. With her fabulous band and loyal crew, she also welcomed NRBQ member, Terry Adams, to top off the evening, for a stellar performance.
Raitt's warmth toward the crowd and her band members radiated across the field, as the cool pre-summer evening turned dark. Highlighted with a beautiful landscape, and occasional flashes of lightening, the atmosphere was laid back and friendly, but literally super charged, with an impromptu grass dance floor started up right on the hills.

Mountain Park is an open air venue with rolling hills and a covered stage, that used to be an amusement park. It kicked off the summer season of shows this year with Mavis Staples and Bonnie Raitt. On a beautifully cool pre-summer night, the mountain was ablaze with these soul sisters just doing what they've always done - courageously belting out what is on their minds - and lucky for us, it is earth moving timeless music.

As the lights went down in the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom the cover from the Cult's latest CD, Choice of Weapon, was projected onto film screens on either side of the stage. In the darkness, sounds of tribal beats and chanting surrounded you. When the drumming stopped, the Cult took the stage and we were off...running like a pack of wolves through the night, stopping just long enough to do a chorus howl.

A sparse stage, with only a red Asian carpet, speakers and stacks, marked the setting that tonight unleashed the understated power that is Lindsey Buckingham. He changed guitars before every song in this completely solo set.

Ray Mason at the Thirsty Mind 2011
We caught Ray Mason at the Thirsty Mind in South Hadley, MA, last night. He continues to be a great showman with original songs, funny stories, audience engagement and most importantly, master guitar work. People were smiling, laughing and some toes were tapping as Mr. Mason used his unique vocals with his signature mix of folk, rock and upside down blues themes. His history brings the love of music throughout the years, the Yardbirds, Dylan, Buffalo Springfield, and to me, he sounds like a brighter version of Neil Young with an uptempo guitar style. He has toured with NRBQ and currently plays in the band he's lead for 20 years, The Lonesome Brothers.
