One of the best skills, for a drummer, any drummer, it is to feel the emotions running through their veins and translate them instantaneously into vibes, sounds that can go up and down in scale, depending by what the soul of the drummer is telling to. That instinct, that immediate passage of feeling between the mind and the arms is the most pure and untamed one, because it cannot be measured or controlled. It's raw, genuine, because it emerges in an unplanned manner and that is what makes drumming being very often not only being the backbone part of a song or a composition, but also its very core.
Somebody that has for long used drumming as a vehicle to express and explore in music feelings, imageries, memories and so much more, it is the Italian drummer Piero Perelli, an artist that has made an enormous name for himself within the music business by working with some of the biggest names not only in Italian music, like Vinicio Capossela, Edoardo Bennato and Andrea Bocelli, but also with the cream of the Worldwide Music, like Eddie Vedder, Dana Fuchs and Glen Hansard, among others.
After collaborating with artists belonging to many different music genres, Perelli felt, in 2024, that was the right moment for him to lay down on his own terms all the musical experience accumulated in all those years of recording and touring, by releasing his very first solo album called Notte, an album where the Italian artist could finally unleash the way he portrays music without being constrained in an unique sonic box. Through Notte, we are able to discover another side of this artist, a side allowing him to express, through the 9 instrumentals present on the album, his highly imaginative and often cinematic composing method, displaying in accurate fashion the way that Perelli sees and perceive music without having to pigeonhole himself, as an artist.
Perelli's compositional style is fascinatedly instinctive, emotional and never filtered. Throughout the whole album, the Italian drummer and composer let the music flow in a very organic way, projecting in his tunes life experiences gathered through his numerous travelling around the world for artistic purposes, where he had the opportunity to absorbe emotions that Perelli had finally decided to use as a chromatic tool to build his pieces.
Notte is, undoubtedly, a kaleidoscopic journey into Ambient, Electronica, Industrial Rock and even Trip Hop, but it's also, most importantly, a journey in the soul of an artist like Perelli.
Whilst the Italian drummer uses diverse musical forms, throughout the record, Perelli uses a cinematic approach as the common glue for each of his pieces, letting genres being only a starting platform of each tune, to then allow Perelli's drumming to be the steering wheel that takes each composition to take specific directions, drawing on its way feelings of mystery, peace, love and Nostalgia in an almost Michelangelo Antonioni's directing style.
Imaginative, seductive, nostalgic and fundamentally honest. Notte is the true representation in music of a truly talented artist that lives music as a way to convey his true essence of human being in the most genuine and awe-inspiring way. An excellent solo debut for this genial Italian drummer and composer.
