How many times have we found ourselves debating who we are, where we come from, and where we are heading? These are questions we ask ourselves from a very young age, often without finding satisfactory answers as the years go by, given how quickly the world around us changes and how we, as human beings, evolve along with it.

An artist who has always been keen to explore the dynamics of self-perception, our role in society, the complex mechanisms of the human mind and our failure to look at the self-sustaining ecosystems around us as examples to improve our everyday lives, is the Italian Electro-Pop artist Alessandro Zannier, better known as Ottodix. With his ninth studio album, Cerebro_Mundi, he delivers one of the most inspired records of his career to date.

Conceived as a concept album divided into two halves, Cerebro_Mundi sees Ottodix focusing in its first section on the human brain, its intricate functionality and its perception of reality. The album's second half broadens its scope to a planetary perspective, addressing themes such as mass migration, the increasing influence of Artificial Intelligence in our daily lives and the possibility of future wars fought over resources essential to humanity's survival, such as water.

Across 12 songs, the Italian singer-songwriter crafts an impeccable narrative based on careful observations of contemporary society, pairing thought-provoking subject matter with sonic landscapes that are, at times, dark and melancholic and at others, uplifting and optimistic.

Cerebro_Mundi also serves as a comprehensive confirmation of Ottodix's vocal abilities and multifaceted artistic approach. Suspended between Trip-Hop, Industrial Techno-Pop, and crepuscular Synth-Rock, the album's arrangements complement each song's thematic focus, immersing listeners in the musical tensions and atmospheric nuances created by the Italian artist throughout the record.

Among its many strengths, Cerebro_Mundi is an album that both entertains and encourages reflection. While the first, more cerebral section examines themes such as delusions of omnipotence (Brain_Rot), the inability to perceive the dark forces influencing our minds (Amigdala), and the contrast between idealised romanticism and the biological realities of love (Feniletilamina), the second half explores issues including humanity's growing imbalance within an overexploited and fragile ecosystem (Escalation), the contrast between self-isolation and inflated individualism versus the highly functional underground and above-ground networks that sustain plant life (Wood_Wide_Web) and the doubts we experience regarding our perception of reality (Cosmopsiche).

Beautifully produced by Alessandro Zannier (Ottodix) and co-producer Flavio Ferri, Cerebro_Mundi once again showcases the vocal talent, sonic vision, and sophisticated songwriting of an artist who consistently delivers music of remarkable quality and inspiration.

Like the finest concept albums, Cerebro_Mundi operates on multiple levels, offering listeners an experience that is both intellectually stimulating and emotionally engaging. It is, ultimately, a richly layered work and a genuine treat for the senses.
