Colby Dix, singer songwriter from Dover, Vermont is worth a good listen if you're in that region. An independent agent of many talents, he is often found doing solo gigs at local venues. He is a graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, with studio experience throughout the Northeast. He has a broad range of experience with which to draw, while entertaining you in the spontaneous spaces you may find him.

colbydixwebHe warms the unsuspecting crowd with acoustic covers of soul and contemporary favorites; Marvin Gaye, JMraz, REM, John Mayer and then he adds some interest to the set with some of his own works. He has some demos posted in various places around the web. He doesn't take himself or his music very seriously as he writes about it, but then he categorizes himself in the 'alternative weepy' genre of music. "Too Far (To Drive)" was a good sample and a hinted to me of  Tom Waits, (but I compare everyone to either Waits, Zeppelin or Westerberg these days, so who am I to muse).

His voice has a good range for different styles. It seemed to change with each track, remaining unique to his take and continued to surprise me. He is friendly and approachable, yet not intrusive to the subtle subtitles that could be wafting through the crowd. Everyone has a story, and his background character quietly steps forward when you're out and about in the Mount Snow area.

So enjoy the beautiful Green Mountains, and fold into a local pub or restaurant if you see Colby Dix posted as the artist.
